Similar to the Term 1 page, here is where we can start uploading and sharing documents and assignments from Term 2 with each other. I am going to tentatively arrange this page by sub-topic areas and see if it suits our needs!

Note: Please write your name as the author, write a brief description of the assignment or resource, and upload the file beneath this information. Below is an example:

Author: James Liou Resource name: Guided worksheet introducing different forms of government. Download file here: [insert file link]

Transitioning from Unit 1 to Unit 2:

Unit Introduction: Justice, Courts and the Rule of Law:

Henry Mahegan Transitioning to Term 2 Plus Unit Introduction: Justice System word cloud activity

This document is the final word cloud based on the responses of all three sections of my civics class.
Henry Mahegan Court Room Diagram Activity: Courtroom diagram taken from Government Alive!

Apparently the worksheet for this lesson was too large a file to upload, sorry.

Henry Mahegan State Court v. Federal Court Card Sort Activity: Students had to compare the state and federal court system by using a Venn Diagram

Marcie Fiorini: Main Role of the Judicial Branch: Resolving Society's Conflicts: Students created their own notes based on this reading.
Make sure you are able to:
1 - Explain how the judicial branch resolves conflicts.
2- Define the six terms
3- Ask 2+ questions about the reading.

The Bill of Rights, Civil Liberties and Civil Rights:

Marcie Fiorini: VOCABULARY for WEEK

Freedom of Speech Issues:

Henry Mahegan United States v. O'Brien Case Examination: Students were given packets of information about the case -- all of the information came from the case summary at the back of Government Alive! All I did was copy it, cut it up into four chunks, and paper clip them together.

Search & Seizure Issues:

Henry Mahegan In-School Search and Seizure Case Examination: Students examined several cases of in-school search and seizure and completed a worksheet.

They also completed this survey about the balance between student privacy and safety.

Marcie Fiorini: Just focused on "The Investigation", which lead to court cases involving search and seizure. The students worked in groups, each group assigned a reading. They had to take notes that fit into their matrix space. The next day they shared out their notes using the document projector.

Equal Protection Under the Law Issues:

Grassroots Movements as a Method for Social Change:

Henry Mahegan Recent Grassroots Movements, Protests, etc.: Students completed three stations that each focused on the protests and demonstrations of 2011 -- much of the material for this lesson was taken from the Time Magazine "Person of the Year" issue.

I also had a scanned version of "The Protest Network" map on pages 76-77 of that issue of Time, but the file it was too big to upload.

PAR Overview:

Marcie Fiorini: I used the presentation on the first day we talked about PAR. This guided them through the sample PAR projects at their tables.

Marcie Fiorini: I used this more detailed presentation about a week later.
